TikTok has exploded in popularity in Indonesia over the past few years. As of 2022, Indonesia had the third highest number of TikTok users in the world, with over 85 million monthly active users according to TikTok – Age Demographics for Indonesia. The addictive short-form video app has become a cultural phenomenon in the country, especially among Gen Z users. TikTok’s growth in Indonesia has been fueled by widespread smartphone adoption, inexpensive mobile data plans, and the app’s algorithmic recommendations that keep users endlessly scrolling.
Methodology
To determine the most popular TikTokers in Indonesia, this analysis defined popularity based on total followers, average views per video, and engagement rate. These are common metrics used to measure a TikTok creator’s reach and resonance with their audience (Rival IQ).
Follower count shows the size of a creator’s audience. Views per video indicate how much interest each piece of content generates. Engagement rate is the percentage of followers who actively like, comment on, or share videos. A high engagement rate signifies an audience that is enthusiastic about a creator’s content (Social Insider).
These metrics were examined for top TikTokers in Indonesia to compile a ranking of the most popular accounts. Only creators based primarily in Indonesia were considered. The analysis drew on publicly available data from leading TikTok analytics tools.
