Searching for videos on TikTok has become easier with their latest app update. You can now search by keywords, sounds, hashtags, effects, and more. Here’s a step-by-step guide to searching for videos in the new TikTok update:
Use the Search Bar
The most straightforward way to search on TikTok is to use the search bar at the top of the app. Just tap on it and type in keywords related to the types of videos you want to find. For example, search “comedy” to find funny videos, “dance” to find dance videos, or more specific keywords like “bakery recipes.”
Search by Hashtags
Hashtags are a great way to find videos on themes or topics you’re interested in. Tap on the search bar and type in a hashtag like #food or #travel. The app will display results tagged with that hashtag. You can also combine hashtags for more specific searches like #foodtravel or #dancetutorial.
Discover Tab
Tap on the Discover tab at the bottom of the app to browse popular video categories and hashtags. This is a good way to find trending topics and viral videos. Scroll through the different categories like Food, Animals, Dance, DIY, and more. Tap on any category or hashtag to view videos.
Sounds Search
You can now search for videos by the sounds used in them. Tap on the search bar and then tap the music note icon. This will let you search sounds from TikTok’s library of music clips, dialogs, and audio effects. For example, search “kesha cannibal” to find TikToks using that Kesha song.
Effects Search
TikTok has a huge library of AR effects and filters you can search for. Tap the effects icon in the search bar, then browse or search for an effect by name. For example, search “puppy” to find the cute puppy augmented reality effect. Tap on any effect to see videos created using it.
People Search
You can search for specific TikTok creators by tapping the profile icon in the search bar. Type in their username or full name to find their account and videos. This is useful for finding your favorite personalities or influencers.
Use Recommended Searches
When you tap in the search bar, TikTok displays trending searches and recommendations. Scroll through these to get video ideas based on what’s currently popular. Tapping any of the suggestions will automatically search for those keywords.
Fyp (For You Page) Search
TikTok’s FYP algorithm tailors video results to you based on your interests and engagement. So the FYP feed on your homepage is a more personalized search. Scroll through the FYP and like videos you enjoy to get results catered to your tastes.
Following Feed Search
Your Following feed shows the latest videos from creators you follow. So this can help you search within a defined group of accounts. Tap Following at the bottom to browse just videos from your subscribed creators.
Use Captions
Many TikTok videos have captions overlaid on them. The captions often contain keywords that describe the content. You can search these captions even if they aren’t in the metadata. So searching “cake recipe” or “dance tutorial” can surface videos with those words in the captions.
Search Within Profile
When you’re on a profile, tap the search icon at the top. This lets you search for videos only within that creator’s uploads. For example, search “baking” on a chef’s profile to find just their baking videos.
Search LIkes
Tap the heart icon on your profile to view your Liked videos. You can search within this collection by tapping search here. Try searching “cooking” or “comedy” to re-find videos you liked with those topics.
Shared Videos
Tap the share icon on your profile to view your Shared videos collection. Search here to find videos you’ve shared based on keywords. This works the same as searching your Liked videos.
Use Specific Dates
You can find videos posted during certain time periods by searching using dates or dates ranges. For example, search “2022” or “march 2022” to see just videos uploaded then. This works best when searching hashtags, sounds, or profiles.
Location Search
To find videos shot in specific locations, tap the search bar and then the location pin icon. You can then browse videos geotagged with certain places. Or search a city, venue, or landmark name to find videos tagged there.
Use Filters
When viewing search results, tap Filters at the top. You can then filter by video duration, upload date, and whether they have captions. This helps refine results based on video qualities.
Searches in Messages
You can also search for videos within your private messages. Open a message thread, tap search, and enter keywords to find videos shared just in that conversation.
Search from Profile Links
Creators can link to searches from their profile bios. Tap these links to automatically search related hashtags, sounds, or effects. This lets you quickly find videos they recommend.
TikTok’s powerful search features make it easy to find any type of video you want. Take advantage of all the options to search by keyword, hashtag, sound, effect, date, location, and more. The more specific your search, the better your results. Happy video hunting!
