If you’ve come across an amazing TikTok video that you want to watch again or share with friends, but can’t seem to find it in your likes or profile, don’t worry! There are a few easy ways to locate TikTok videos you’ve previously watched on the platform.
Check your likes
The most straightforward place to find TikToks you’ve watched is in your “Liked Videos” section. To access it:
- Open the TikTok app on your mobile device.
- Tap the profile icon in the bottom right corner.
- Tap the bookmark icon at the top of your profile page.
This will take you to a feed of all the videos you’ve liked. Scroll through to see if you can find the one you’re searching for.
Look at your viewing history
TikTok keeps track of all the videos you watch in your account’s viewing history. Although there’s no dedicated viewing history page in the app, you can still access it by:
- Going to the Discover page in the TikTok app.
- Tapping the search bar at the top.
- Typing a phrase related to the video you want to find.
Relevant videos you’ve previously watched should appear at the top of the results page. You may need to scroll down a bit to find the exact one you were looking for.
Search by keywords
If you remember specific words or phrases from the TikTok’s captions, hashtags, or audio, try searching for those keywords. For example:
- Names of people in the video
- Songs or sounds used in the video
- Captions or hashtags from the video
- Key topic words related to the video’s content
Enter relevant keywords into the TikTok search bar and you may find the lost video in the results.
Check your browser history
If you watched the TikTok video on a web browser rather than in the mobile app, it should be in your browser history. To find it:
- Open your web browser on your phone or computer.
- Click into your history tab.
- Search for “tiktok.com” to filter for TikTok sites you’ve visited.
- Scroll through the TikTok history and click any video links to see if they contain the video you’re looking for.
Use TikTok’s text search feature
TikTok has a text search tool that allows you to search for specific videos using a URL or share link. Here’s how to use it:
- Go to TikTok’s text search page: https://www.tiktok.com/search/
- Enter the full URL of the TikTok video into the search bar.
- Click the search icon. The video page should come up if the link is valid.
If you don’t have the exact URL, enter any partial URLs you remember from sharing the link or typing it into your browser.
Use a TikTok video downloader
There are various third-party apps and websites known as TikTok downloaders that allow you to input a TikTok video link and download the video to your device. Some popular options include:
- SaveFrom.Net
- SSSTik
- TikTokSaver
- SnapTik
- Videoder
To use one of these tools:
- Go to the downloader’s website or app.
- Paste the URL of the TikTok video you want to find.
- Follow the site’s instructions to download the video to your device.
- Open the video file to confirm it’s the correct one.
The advantage of using a downloader is you can retrieve videos using partial or incorrect URLs.
Check out other users’ profiles
If you discovered the lost TikTok on another user’s profile, try browsing through their uploaded videos, likes, or comments to see if you can spot it again. You may be able to retrace your steps and find the video you watched.
To quickly access profiles of TikTok users you interact with frequently, tap the Inbox icon on the app’s main navigation bar. This will surface conversations as well as one-tap access to profiles of users you’ve exchanged messages with in the past.
Ask friends if they have the link
If you originally saw the video because a friend shared it with you, reach out to that friend and ask them if they have the link or can share it again. Chances are the video is still in their Recently Watched list, and they can easily grab the URL for you.
You can also ask friends if the video shows up in their viewing history after they search relevant keywords related to the lost TikTok video. Have them search on their version of the app, then scroll through results to see if the video pops up for them.
Contact the video creator
If you can identify the original creator of the TikTok video, you can try reaching out to them directly to ask if they can reshare the specific video with you. Here’s how to reach out to a TikTok creator:
- Go to the user’s TikTok profile.
- Tap the Share Profile icon.
- Select the Messaging option.
- Type your message requesting they re-share the lost video link with you.
Many creators are happy to share links to their content when asked politely by fans or viewers!
Check your TikTok notifications
If the account who posted the lost TikTok video you’re searching for is one you follow or interact with frequently, there’s a chance the share notification is still sitting in your notifications tab.
To check:
- Tap the Inbox icon on the main navigation bar.
- Select the Notifications tab.
- Scroll down to see if the share notification is still visible.
- Tap it to open the video.
TikTok notifications only persist for a limited time, so check this area sooner rather than later if attempting this method.
Use TikTok’s account recovery process
As a last resort, you may be able to recover a lost video by going through TikTok’s account recovery process. This allows you to restore a backup of your account data from a previous date.
To do this:
- Go to TikTok > tap Profile > Settings and Privacy > Manage Account > Switch Accounts > Forgot password.
- Enter your phone number, email, or username and select Send Code.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new password and recover your account.
Once logged in, your account should be restored to a previous state with that video potentially reappearing in your likes or history. However, this is not guaranteed to work.
Prevent losing track of videos
To avoid searching for lost TikTok videos in the future, there are some habits you can form:
- Like videos you want to save for later. Liked TikToks are easy to find and share.
- Comment on videos so they show up in your comment history.
- Share videos to friends through TikTok’s built-in messaging.
- Save videos using TikTok’s save feature or a downloader tool.
- Follow creators you enjoy so their new videos appear in your Following feed.
TikTok makes it easy to discover lots of entertaining short videos, but the platform also allows videos to be deleted or made private at any time. So if you come across something you really love, take a moment to actively save, share, or engage with that video to ensure you can find it again later!
